Lately I’ve been reminding myself that joy isn’t in big milestones or out of reach...it’s tucked inside the small, ordinary moments we often rush past.

☀️The morning light on the kitchen counter.
☕️The first sip of something warm.
🎶A song you forgot you loved.
🧘🏻‍♀️A deep breath that feels like a reset.
🌊The crash of ocean waves.

Life gets softer when we notice the little things, as these little things, or glimmers make a powerful impact on our well-being.

Here’s to slowing down, paying attention, and letting the simple moments fill us up. 🤍

In all about love, bells hooks emphasizes that self-love is the foundation for all other forms of affection. As the saying goes, “you cannot pour from an empty cup”

If you want to be able to cultivate joy, you need to start with yourself. What is one thing you can do today to practice self-care?

I’ve been spending a lot of time reading, listening, reflecting, and staying grounded with this incredible author, poet, and inspiration @yung_pueblo This quote in particular is a lovely reminder to center joy in the midst of our hustle culture.

Too often our society forces us to move in a daily grind, absent of joy and void of any spaciousness for play. I was just reflecting with my friend this afternoon about what it means to be a single mom living in California, and trying to create a joyful, sustainable, and healthy lifestyle for my two daughters. Many days I ponder what to cut back on, how to save money, and categorizing the things that we need versus want. By doing this, I begin to associate joy with financial freedom which causes me to hustle more and in turn, lose sight of what really matters, quality time with my daughters.

And though achieving financial freedom may bring out happiness, I realize that our mental and emotional health will be abundant and wealthy if I focus on the powerful emotion of day to day joy for me and my daughters.

For us, that means spending quality time with those that we love, getting out into nature (a bike ride, a beach walk, a book in the hammock) or through creativity (creating baked goods, coloring, crafting, building forts and crocheting)

What are the things that you can/will do to center your joy?

This means we need to make an active choice to extend love for ourselves for the purpose of nurturing our own growth or another’s growth.
